Taxicab Security Tips

    Although not nearly as serious as Mexico City, robberies targeting passengers in taxis are becoming more common in Monterrey.  It is recommended that travelers take certain precautions and avoid taking any taxi not summoned by telephone or contacted in advance. It is recommended that a radio taxi or regulated taxi-stand taxi be used.  The dispatcher can be asked for the driver’s name and the cab’s license plate number in advance. If possible, ask a hotel concierge or other responsible individual to write down the license plate number of the cab that you entered.  One taxicab company even allows passengers to request a taxi online (http://www.contaxi.com).

    Passengers arriving at Monterrey’s International Airport should take only airport taxis or airport shuttles after pre-paying the fare at one of the kiosks inside the airport.  A new shuttle service recently started operating in Monterrey with convenient service to two downtown locations (https://www.skybus.com.mx/).
